Vivien Holmes is a First Year PhD Student under Professor David Wedge in the Manchester Cancer Research Centre. Vivien is a mathematician by trade but has extensively retrained in medicine and bioinformatics after a period working as a software engineer at NHS Digital.

Their project is focused on developing new ML methods to analyse spatial transcriptomic data, and applying that to samples from Kenya, with the aim of understanding the specific aetiology of Prostate Cancer in African populations, which is systemically understudied.
