‘I'm Still Me’: Art Exhibition
Portraits and Stories of Cancer Rehabilitation with Facial Prostheses
We are thrilled to announce the arrival of the ‘I’m Still Me’ art exhibition, a poignant and inspiring display that showcases the journey of cancer rehabilitation through the use of facial prostheses.
From Monday 1st July – Wednesday 31st July, staff, students, patients, the public and community groups are invited to attend this free art exhibition on display in the Oglesby Cancer Research Building main foyer.
The exhibit features prints of paintings of patients who wear facial prostheses resulting from treatment for head and neck cancer and their accompanying stories of living with a visible facial difference. It highlights important messages about facial equalities and provides an opportunity to learn more about navigating life after cancer.
This exhibition is free to attend and is on display between Monday-Friday 08:00-16:00 in the OCRB’s publicly accessible foyer. You do not need to book or register in advance.
About The Artists and Research
The exhibition is the result of the scientific research of Dr Rachael Jablonski’s PhD project IMPRESSeD study (IMproving facial PRosthesis construction with contactlESs Scanning and Digital workflow), which evaluates novel digital dentistry approaches to improve facial prosthesis manufacture.
The art accompanying this research has been co-created by artists Sarah Morley, Alison Murdoch, Brigid Brind, Jenny Mather, and Tracy Ireland, plus researchers Dr Rachael Jablonski and Professor Sue Pavitt, and writer (Dr Georgina Binnie-Wright. Thanks also to clinicians, and patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) contributors Rebecca, Robin and Peter who worked collaboratively as equal partners to set the project’s direction, objectives and key messages.
Lunchtime Lecture
You are also invited to a lunchtime lecture and discussion on Wednesday 17th July 12:30-14:00, with a free lunch served from 12:00-12:30.
The lecture includes a scientific discussion by Dr Rachael Jablonski (University of Leeds) and a roundtable discussion facilitated by Professor Sue Pavitt, with the interdisciplinary ‘I’m Still Me’ team clinician (Dr Rachael Jablonski), artists (Sarah Morley and Alison Murdoch) patients (Robin, Rebecca and Timothy), and writer (Dr Georgina Binnie-Wright). This event also explores methodologies and best practice when co-creating research projects.
