Keith Brennan

Vice Dean for Internationalisation, Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health

Professor Keith Brennan was appointed as Vice Dean for Internationalisation in 2022. Keith is also Professor of Developmental Signalling, based in the Division of Cancer Sciences.

His role as a member of the wider Faculty Leadership Team is to support colleagues in the development of research and teaching links with international institutions. He also supports them to develop an international student recruitment strategy and the adaptation of degree programmes for an international market.

Professor Brennan's PhD and initial postdoctoral research was undertaken at the University of Cambridge. He then moved to Cornell University, New York for his second postdoctoral fellowship, where his research focused on Wnt signalling in mammalian cells.

In 2001, he returned to The University of Manchester on a Wellcome Trust Research Career Development Fellowship to establish his own laboratory. His research focuses on the role developmental signalling pathways play in the initiation of cancer - particularly the role of Notch signalling in breast cancer.

He is also interested in how the signalling pathway controls cellular behaviours and therefore regulates normal mammary gland development and tumour initiation and progression.
